What are the environmental characteristics of CI-4 15W/40 Diesel Engine Oil

Environmental Performance of CI-4 15W/40 Diesel Engine Oil

CI-4 15W/40 Diesel Engine Oil demonstrates certain environmental performance, but it also has limitations, as follows

1. Low Sulfur and Phosphorus Formula:

CI-4 grade engine oils adhere to API standards, limiting sulfur and phosphorus content. Lower sulfur content reduces emissions of harmful gases such as sulfur dioxide during combustion, mitigating the risk of acid rain. Controlled phosphorus content prevents poisoning of catalysts in exhaust aftertreatment systems, ensuring proper operation of diesel vehicle exhaust purification systems and indirectly reducing emissions of pollutants such as nitrogen oxides.

2. Reduced Deposits:

Utilizing advanced clean dispersant technology, CI-4 15W/40 effectively inhibits the formation of deposits such as carbon deposits and sludge within the engine. Clean engine operating conditions ensure more complete fuel combustion, reducing emissions of pollutants such as carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons caused by incomplete combustion, while also lowering the formation of particulate matter (PM).

3. Extended Oil Drain Intervals:

CI-4 15W/40 Diesel Engine Oil has excellent antioxidant and anti-wear properties, resulting in a relatively long service life. Properly extending the oil drain interval means reducing the amount of waste oil generated, minimizing environmental pollution during waste oil disposal, and conserving petroleum resources.

4. Limitations and Precautions:

Despite its environmental advantages, CI-4 engine oil is still a mineral or semi-synthetic oil, and its base oil is derived from petroleum refining, which inevitably has certain environmental impacts. Furthermore, the use of low-quality diesel or improper maintenance can weaken the oil's environmental benefits and even lead to increased pollutant emissions due to decreased engine performance.

In summary, CI-4 15W/40 Diesel Engine Oil has certain environmental benefits due to its formulation and performance. However, to achieve optimal environmental benefits, it requires high-quality fuel and proper maintenance. Furthermore, with increasing environmental standards, its environmental performance still has room for improvement compared to more advanced low-ash fully synthetic engine oils.
